Protecting Girls, Empowering Communities

Through dedicated efforts across multiple woredas, this initiative achieved significant milestones in the fight against FGM, successfully supporting eight woredas to declare its abandonment and enabling over 1,700 practitioners to renounce the practice. This directly protected more than 15,000 girls from undergoing FGM and contributed to increased school enrollment and reduced dropout rates for girls. The program also delivered substantial economic and humanitarian support, training 2,000+ women in income-generating activities, providing for 6,900 vulnerable children, and equipping health facilities in six woredas. Furthermore, its advocacy led to successful regional anti-FGM legislation, and it extended critical aid to conflict-affected areas, including empowering women and responding to the needs of internally displaced people.
